Perspective with Vanessa Luther-Smith

We had a drawing class on Monday with Vanessa on perspective and I found it really useful. Somehow I’ve never been formally taught it, despite having done a Fine Art degree. I think traditional art education has been out of fashion for a few decades or something. We went through the principals of perspective: Ie. what appears to affects depth, perspective etc (warm/cool colours, diminution, foreshortening, convergence, atmospheric perspective and overlapping) and we also went through the laws of perspective (below). We covered 1 point – 5 point perspective, 6 point perspective is pretty much too complicated for everyone.

After the lecture/workshop we were given a list of animators/illustrators as reference points to look up if we wanted to research perspective further, and I looked up Thomas Romain, who has some very useful learning resources on the subject. I will include screenshots of a few I found particularly useful/interesting.
